For this living + dining room combo, Fluff designers Jill and Melanie were thrilled to be working with a stunning, early 20th century home – original wood flooring, gorgeous built-ins, and tons of charm. The clients, an active family with young kids, wanted a space that was stylish and cozy, but also very functional. The design team immediately gravitated towards an earthy color palette of muted greens, terra cottas, various wood-tones, gold, and ivory. They decided to take a risk by painting the living room walls a dark, gray-green to set off the beautiful molding throughout the space. They balanced the sleek lines of the furniture with lots of texture – rich leather, nubby wool and hammered metals. Pattern, both organic and geometric was used to give the space dimension. In the dining room, they kept things a little bit more formal, using a baroque-patterned rug in various shades of green, as well as a sleek apothecary buffet. Because the dining room was being used as the primary eating space, they kept the table bare and let the original burnished-gold chandelier steal the spotlight.

For a recent home office that Fluff Your Stuff completed, designer, Lorrie, wanted to do something gender-neutral, sleek, and a little bit out-of-the-box. She immediately knew that wallpaper could do the trick. With the slightly metallic, seaglass/chocolate birch tree design as a backdrop, she added a streamlined desk, luxurious floor-to-ceiling curtains, and sleek ladder bookshelves. Here are the “Before” pictures:
And here are the “After” Pictures:
The story behind this design is really special for us. Jennifer wanted us to help her mom, Karen, revamp her living room, which was suffering from “a lot of beige syndrome.” (We know many of you out there can identify.) When we first met with the mother-daughter duo, Karen was hesitant about how much to do the space. Eventually, we all decided to just go for it, and we couldn’t have had a more wonderful, trusting client! The rules were that we had to keep her existing couches and TV hutch. Our goal was to make as big a change as possible with as few additions as we could. Also, we wanted to keep the space cozy and kid-friendly. Some curtains, a bench, a new rug, some pillows, and a reading nook later, we were ready to go! Without further ado, here are the “before” pictures:
And the “afters!”
The best part is that we took some video of what we call “The Big Reveal” – the part where we show the client their updated space when we’re done installing the design. It’s always so exciting to see the client’s reaction!
And if that wasn’t the cherry on the cake, the email we received from Jennifer after all was said and done made our hearts melt. Here is a snippet from that email:
My mom is such a wonderful person. She is one of the kindest, most giving people I know. She always focuses on making everyone else feel happy and special. Thank you for making her feel so special now. I can’t even begin to describe exactly how happy my mom is. It’s really cool. Thank you a thousand times over.
It’s truly times like these when we think we’re the luckiest interior designers in the world. Thank you Jennifer and Karen!!!
