It is a frustrating thing to live in a home and to not fully use its square footage. Do you have a room that “no one ever uses?” Or… is there a room in your home that you need to function in 25 different ways? We get it and recently worked with a fabulous, repeat client here in Omaha who had an upstairs loft with a good amount of square footage and even more demands for its use.
The loft is open to the split staircase and has 3 small, square windows that provide great natural light and a bit of architectural detail. It demanded to be used as an office since the homeowner works full-time from home, however, a second family hang out room with a nook for some toddler toys was also a priority.
So… we took on the challenge.
A smaller loft size sectional fit the corner perfectly and provided 4 comfy seats without taking up all the room’s floor space.
We chose a low, sleek, modern looking TV console for the opposing wall, which allowed white birch decals to cause a tall vertical presence in a room with 8’ ceilings.
The color palette was determined by a choice in a whimsical green and blue floral large print area rug. You see pops of varying shades of green and blue in the room’s art, pillows, and awesome jadite and green glass accessories. The collection of glass you see are some of our all-time favorites, by the way – a modern twist on inexpensive Depression Era glassware.
A black, mid-century styled desk and lucite desk chair provide the perfect landing ground for the homeowner’s laptop and workspace. But, her son lives there too so we added some functional storage and a small chalkboard for him to rummage for favorite toys!
Last but, not least, you may be wondering about (insert dramatic music) THAT FANTASTIC CHAIR IN THE CORNER! Yes, it is comfy. Yes, it is 45” tall. Yes, it is awesome. Decorating success!
A room does not have to be big in order to function like you need it!
